December ’15 Boxycharm Review 5: OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Americano

This color and formula speaks to me.

The liquid lipstick trend is definitely going to stick around for a while. On Instagram it looks really cool and I was all for hopping on board. The question is, which formula is right for me?

Everyone knows that liquid lipsticks dry down to a really amazing looking matte, almost powdery finish. The more powdery the finish, the more drying the formula. For me, I need my liquid lipsticks to be both beautiful and comfortable. I’m willing to sacrifice longevity and a completely “matte” look to save my lips some pain.

Enter OFRA Cosmetics. I have to admit, this is not my first go with their liquid lipsticks. I hopped on board with OFRA after Kathleen Lights gave them a shoutout and she started collaborating with them.

The first shade I tried from OFRA was Kathleen Lights’ Miami Fever (PS, I also own her second shade, Havana Nights. It’s equally gorgeous). It was absolutely gorgeous and so incredibly comfortable to wear. I was sold.

When Boxycharm announced we’d be getting an OFRA shade in the December boxes, I was over the moon.

Their Long Lasting Liquid Lipsticks retail for USD $19.90, but Kathleen Lights does have a coupon code that will get you 30% off (KATHLEEN30). Honestly, they’re worth the original price but do take the discount code and save a few bucks.

I received the shade Americano, which is definitely an on-trend mocha brown color. It’s absolutely stunning and would work well on a lot of people on the pale to dark skin color spectrum.

I mean, who wouldn’t love this color?!

If you’ve been wanting to get on the Kylie Jenner lip trend, this is a great place to start.

The formula is more mousse like than liquid in consistency. I would say it dries down to a semi-matte finish. If you’re going for full matte lips, then this won’t be your favorite formula. However, if you have lips that are very prone to drying or if you’re older but still want to try this trend, this formula will be right up your alley. It dries down comfortably, still looks matte, and doesn’t dry out the lips or emphasize lip lines. Of course, I still highly recommend using a good lip balm for your base to ensure full moisture.

This particular color does give you full opacity in one swipe. My experience with the lighter liquid lipstick colors in general is that the lighter the shade, the less opaque the formula. If you want to ensure full opacity (and add an extra layer of moisture protection), I suggest using a similarly colored lip liner as a base. Pictured above, I’m using the Bellapierre liner that Boxycharm also sent in the December box (that review will be up tomorrow). A liner will also ensure that your lipstick doesn’t smear all over your face.

Because it does dry down completely, this is not 100% transfer proof. However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t long-wearing. I would say with eating and drinking I can get a good 4 to 5 hours before I need to touch up. I’ll just need to touch up around the center. What I love is that you don’t get that awkward O ring in the inner part of the mouth, like some other lipsticks. That’s not a cute look and luckily, OFRA avoids that.

As for the packaging, OFRA is a smaller company so the lipsticks I have are nothing to write home about. They’re a standard plastic tube with a doe-foot applicator. However, it keeps the liquid lipstick from leaking and the applicator works just fine. My sister tells me that the newer shades are being placed in glass bottles, so OFRA may be upping their packaging quality now that they’re more popular.

Rating: 5/5. If you want a comfortable, mousse like liquid lipstick that doesn’t dry out your lips and you don’t mind sacrificing the 100% matte look, this is definitely for you. Especially if you’re new to liquid lipsticks, OFRA is a good gateway product. They have a great range of colors. Americano is a wonder on-trend brown shade that will work will on a ton of people.
